HL Deb 27 October 1965 vol 269 cc668-70WA
LORD METHUEN

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What is the position regarding the preservation of Gains-borough Old Hall, Lincolnshire, a medieval building of architectural and historic interest, listed under the Town and Country Planning Acts, which has been in a deplorable condition of repair for thirty years or more, and is now being cared for by an entirely voluntary body known as The Friends of the Old Hall Association.

THE JOINT PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY, MINISTRY OF LAND AND NATURAL RESOURCES (LORD MITCHISON)

My right honourable friend the Minister of Public Building and Works has already made grants of nearly £14,000 towards the cost of repairs. However, I understand that the building is in need of further repairs and my right honourable friend is considering, in consultation with the local authorities and others concerned, an offer by the owners to hand the building over as a gift.

House adjourned at a quarter before seven o'clock.
