§ 51. Dr. Summerskillasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what steps he is taking to increase the number of medical students.
§ Mr. PrenticeMy right hon. Friend is considering, in consultation with the University Grants Committee, how a further increase in the number of medical school places can best be achieved, but he is not yet ready to make a statement on this. Meanwhile, I can say that the number of British-based students admitted to medical schools this autumn is 2,283, compared with 2,238 last year and 2,166 in 1963.
