§ 58. Mr. Wolrige-Gordonasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will seek to control sales of fireworks more effectively to prevent accidents, particularly to young children, and to prevent misuse.
§ Mr. George ThomasThe sale of firework is already subject to certain statutory requirements, and their manufacture and storage are also controlled. My right hon. and learned Friend is not at present satisfied that the introduction of further restrictions would be practicable, or more effective in preventing accidents than the safety publicity undertaken each year, but he is watching the position very closely.
§ 59. Mr. Costainasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the number of serious injuries this year resulting from accidents caused by fireworks.
§ Mr. George ThomasI regret that this information is unlikely to be available until February of next year.
