§ Mr. Lomasasked the Postmaster-General why it costs 2½d. to send a Christmas card to the United States of America by sea mail and 3d. to send a similar card to another part of the United Kingdom.
§ Mr. BennChristmas cards are charged at the printed papers rates. Those sent overseas enjoy the advantage of the very low printed papers postage rates that we provide in the interests of exports and which were specially exempted from the recent tariff increase. In the inland service this consideration does not apply, and we charge a rate which approximates more closely to the actual cost.
