HC Deb 23 November 1965 vol 721 cc29-30W
Mr. Owen

asked the Minister of Power, what steps are being taken to develop the Acorn opencast mining site in the Broomhill area of the county of Northumberland; what is the probable life of the project; what annual output is expected; what steps are being taken to protect the Haldane housing estate tenants from the dirt, noise, and inconvenience arising from this working; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. John Morris

I understand that the hon. Member has in mind the National Coal Board's opencast site at Coldrife which my right hon. Friend authorised on 4th November. The Board expect to get about two million tons of coal in all from this site over a period of five to eight years. My right hon. Friend is now discussing with other departments concerned the conditions to be included in the authorisation to minimise disturbance and inconvenience to the local residents.
