HC Deb 17 November 1965 vol 720 c83W
Mr. Evelyn King

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will state the terms of compensation available to prison officers injured by prisoners in the course of duty; whether he intends to improve them; and when he will take this action.

Sir F. Soskice

The award to a prison officer who had to retire as the result of injuries inflicted by an inmate in the course of the officer's duty would be governed by the provisions of the Superannuation Act 1965 and the Injury Warrant 1952–1965 and would vary according to the officer's rank and length of service and his degree of incapacity. The Prison Officers Association has recently submitted proposals for a review of these arrangements. These are receiving careful consideration.
