HC Deb 04 November 1965 vol 718 cc227-8W
Sir M. Galpern

asked the Minister of Aviation, what is the present system, for individual airlines, of laying down minimum weather conditions for landing at airports; and whether these minima vary from airline to airline.

Mr. Roy Jenkins

Operators of public transport aircraft registered in the United Kingdom are required to establish, in respect of each type of aircraft used, minimum weather conditions appropriate to every aerodrome of intended departure or landing and to every alternate (and in relation to each runway which may be selected for use). In establishing minima, the operator has to take account of a number of matters, such as the performance of the aircraft, the crew, and the characteristics of the aerodrome in question, including the dimensions of the runways and the availability of aids for approach and landing.

Operators of public transport aircraft registered abroad are required to furnish particulars of their limitations, according to weather conditions, on the use of aerodromes in the United Kingdom.

Because of variations in the circumstances that have to be taken into account, the minima do vary from airline to airline.
