HC Deb 31 May 1965 vol 713 c142W
53. Mr. Francis Noel-Baker

asked the Minister of Health what research has been undertaken into the effect upon the dental health of children and young people of eating between meals, particularly of eating confectionery; and if he will introduce legislation to control advertisements designed to encourage this habit.

Mr. Loughlin

Research in Sweden and elsewhere has shown that confectionery is most likely to foster dental decay when eaten between meals. My right hon. Friend considers dental health education to be more suitable than legislation for promoting sound habits of diet and dental care.
