§ 67 and 68. Mr. Doddsasked the Secretary of State for Defence (1) if he will cause an investigation to be made as to how drill halls are being used in general, and in the county of Kent in particular, and also into the potential use of such drill halls by the public at reasonable charges, in view of the present unsatisfactory situation;
(2) in view of the present limited use of drill halls, what consideration has been given to making greater use of them in the public interest, particularly in areas where there is a shortage of halls.
§ Mr. MulleyTerritorial and Auxiliary Forces Associations are already encouraged to let Territorial Army property for public use whenever it is 235W not required for military purposes. There were 2,350 separate lettings, for a wide variety of activities, in Kent alone last year and I do not consider that any general investigation of the current use of Territorial Army property is called for. As regards charges, the rule must remain that these lettings should occasion no expense to public funds.
