§ Mr. Mellish31 per cent. of dwellings in tenders approved in England and Wales in 1964 were designed with garages, and 28 per cent with either carports or hardstandings. Detailed figures for earlier years are not available. By 1970 my right hon. Friend would expect most estates to be planned on the basis of one car per dewelling with some provision for visitors, as recommended in the Report "Homes for Today and Tomorrow".
