HL Deb 11 May 1965 vol 266 cc61-2WA
LORD ELTON

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they are able to give an estimate, covering the latest period of twelve months for which information is available, of the total sums transmitted to their native countries through (a) official and (b) unofficial or "black market" channels, by West Indian, Indian and Pakistani immigrants resident in the United Kingdom.

LORD SHEPHERD

I regret that I am unable to give an estimate. Remittances abroad by immigrants are included indistinguishably with other donations, gifts and legacies in the item private transfers "in the invisibles account of the United Kingdom balance of payments. Comprehensive information about remittances is not available from the recipient countries.

House adjourned at twenty-three minutes past five o'clock.
