§ Mr. Wingfield Digbyasked the Minister of Transport if he will initiate discussions with the motor industry, with a view to modifying design so as to reduce the mud and spray thrown up by the rear wheels of cars and lorries, since research showed that mud flaps are only a partial answer.
§ Mr. Tom FraserThe Road Research Laboratory's report on their recent investigations into the problems of spray has been forwarded to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders and to others in the industry. My Department is in touch with the Society and I hope that manufacturers will be able to improve the mudguarding of commercial vehicles in the light of the report. Cars present a more difficult problem.
