HC Deb 04 May 1965 vol 711 c151W
Mr. George Jeger

asked the Prime Minister what communication he has received from the Rhodesian Government about the constitutional changes which the Rhodesian Government plan to put into effect after the Rhodesian election; and if he will make a statement.

The Prime Minister

I have received no communication from the Rhodesian Government on this question. I understand that Rhodesian Ministers are advocating certain changes in the constitution as part of their party's policy in the election campaign. I cannot say in advance what view we might take of any such changes should they come forward as part of a suggested basis for the granting of independence. The British Government must also reserve their position on any amendment of specially entrenched provisions, should Section 109 of the Constitution be called into operation.
