Mr. Tinn

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he will state, in respect of total financial assistance to firms in the North-East development districts for the year ended 31st March, 1965, the average capital commitment for each job expected to be created.

Mr. Darling

The total financial assistance offered (excluding offers declined) for projects in the North-East development districts under the Local Employment Acts during the year ended 31st March, 1965, was £8,803,207. Additional employment estimated to arise from this assistance was 21,284. Average financial assistance for each estimated additional job was £414.

Mr. Tinn

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he will state for the year ended 31st March, 1965, the number of approvals given for the building of factories and extensions in the North-East development districts, giving the area and the estimated employment and cost, respectively.

Mr. Darling

Industrial development certificates were issued for 187 schemes with a total area of 6.7 million square feet to employ over 24,200 persons. Information on the cost of these schemes is not collected.
