HC Deb 04 May 1965 vol 711 c141W
Mr. Barnett

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many companies paid Profits Tax in the most recent year for which the information is available; how many paid Income Tax only; and how many paid no tax.

Mr. MacDermot

73,800 Profits Tax assessments were made on the profits of accounting periods ending in the year to 31st March, 1962: some of these were on the combined profits of groups of companies and it is not known how many separate companies were involved. 264,000 companies were assessed to Income Tax on trading profits in 1962–63. It is not known how many registered companies did not pay tax in 1962–63.
