HC Deb 04 May 1965 vol 711 cc154-5W
Mr. Marten

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many extra police were employed, and what was the extra cost involved to public funds, in the Metropolitan Police area, in connection with the Easter march of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament.

Mr. George Thomas

The number of police officers of all ranks employed on these duties in the Metropolitan Police District was as follows:

On 17th April 31
On 18th April 180
On 19th April 931

Additional expenditure was incurred on overtime payments, transport, refreshment, hire of premises and printing of operation orders. I regret that it is not possible, without extensive research, to estimate the total cost.
