§ Mr. Rowlandasked the Minister of Transport whether he will seek power to disqualify automatically for some period motorists and motor cyclists 223W found guilty of careless driving in cases involving the death of a pedestrian or pedal cyclist.
§ Mr. Tom FraserNo. The courts are already required to disqualify for at least 12 months—unless there are special reasons—a driver convicted of causing death by driving in a manner which is dangerous to the public. If a driver is convicted of driving which was careless but not dangerous, he can be disqualified for as lone, as the court thinks fit in all the circumstances of the case.
