Mr. Charles Morrison

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government if he will give a list of local authorities using computers, showing the cost, date of installation, name of manufacturer, type of computer and function for which it is used, respectively.

Mr. MacColl

The details of computers in use by local authorities are as shown in the following list. They are all used for general financial purposes; specialist uses, where known, are indicated. In addition some 40 machines are on order for early delivery.

Information on cost is not available because my right hon. Friend's consent to the purchase of a computer is not required unless the local authority wish to borrow the money.
