§ Mr. Joplingasked the Minister of Transport what representations he has received to change the A.594 road between Penrith and Keswick into a trunk road; and whether he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Tom FraserI have received a proposal from the Cumberland County Council that the A.594 road from Workington to Penrith should become a trunk road. A review is being undertaken of the trunk road system in the Lake District in relation to the traffic pattern which will result from the extension northwards of M.6 to Carlisle. If changes are thought to be justified they will be discussed with the local authorities concerned before decisions are reached.
