HC Deb 09 March 1965 vol 708 cc71-2W
Sir R. Speir

asked the Minister of Transport whether in view of the many accidents, some of them fatal, occurring in Northumberland at Stagshaw crossroads where the A.69 crosses B.6318, he will now authorise the provision of a roundabout at these crossroads or arrange for traffic signals to be installed there.

Mr. Tom Fraser

The Stagshaw crossroads are within the area of the Preservation Scheme for Hadrian's Wall made in 1938 under the Ancient Monuments Act, 1931.

The Northumberland County Council, which is the highway authority, was told last November that a scheme for the provision of a roundabout at the crossroads was agreed in principle, subject to the preservation of certain archaeological features. The matter is still under consideration by the council.
