§ Mr. Woofasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will state the total of British private investment overseas since 1951, the amount of receipts of interest or dividends from such investments, and the amount of tax paid thereon.
§ Mr. CallaghanUnited Kingdom private investment overseas, net of disinvestment, amounted to over £3,000 million in the twelve years 1952–63. Figures of interest and dividends on this new investment are not available, but in the United Kingdom balance of payments interest, profits and dividends (including unremitted profits) from the much larger total of all United Kingdom private investment abroad, totalled some £7,000 million in the period after payment of taxes abroad amounting to over £4,000 million.
