Mrs. Jegerasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether, in view of recent coroners' findings that the use of the drug phenacetin was a contributory cause of death, he will seek to prohibit the advertisement and sale without a doctor's prescription of preparations containing phenacetin.
§ Sir F. SoskiceI have no evidence of such widespread abuse of phenacetin as to justify my bringing the matter to the attention of the Poisons Board, which advises me on such matters. I shall, of course, be very ready to consider any representations about the possible need to control the sale of the substance which may be made to me.
