HC Deb 09 March 1965 vol 708 cc60-1W
90. Mr. Ioan L. Evans

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government if he will take steps to strengthen and extend the work of the National House-Builders Registration Council; and if he will make a statement.

91. Mr. Freeson

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government if he is satisfied that the conditions of membership of the National House-Builders Registration Council are stringent enough to ensure high quality in construction, design and fittings of new houses and flats, and protection of buyers for a sufficiently long period after purchase of property; and if he will take steps to improve standards in this connection.

Mr. Crossman

The National House-Builders Registration Council are considering improvements both in the standards imposed for houses built under their scheme and in the remedies it provides for purchasers. They are also trying to increase the proportion of new houses covered by the scheme. I am in touch with these studies, and I am consulting representative bodies of the house-building industry, local authorities building societies, professional institutions and other interested organisations generally about protection for house purchasers. I am not yet ready to make any statement.
