HC Deb 09 March 1965 vol 708 cc77-8W
Mr. Lomas

asked the Minister of Health how many cytologists are now employed for detection of cervical cancer.

Mr. Loughlin

Hospitals now have about 200 pathologists and over 150 medical laboratory technicians trained and available to undertake this work.

Mr. Lomas

asked the Minister of Health if he will give the number of centres and the names of the towns in the West Riding of Yorkshire where tests for cervical cancer are possible.

Mr. Loughlin

Hospital laboratories in ten towns—Barnsley, Bradford, Dewsbury, Doncaster, Halifax, Harrogate, Huddersfield, Leeds, Sheffield and Wakefield—carry out tests for cervical cancer, mainly at present for hospital clinics.
