HC Deb 09 March 1965 vol 708 c65W
103. Mr. Eldon Griffiths

asked the Minister of Labour by how much the cost of living has increased since 15th October, 1964.

104. Mr. Gower

asked the Minister of Labour if he will give particulars of the changes in the cost of living since 15th October, 1964; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Thornton

The rise between 13th October, 1964, and 12th January, 1965, as measured by the Index of Retail Prices, was about 1½ per cent. The principal changes were increases in the prices of household coal, petrol, newspapers and periodicals, eggs and bread. Some of this increase was seasonal.
