asked the Postmaster-General what proposals he has for extending the improved automatic telephone services in the Bournemouth area; and how many party lines are now in use in Bournemouth and Christchurch.

My right hon. Friend plans to convert the eleven remaining manual exchanges in the Bournemouth Telephone Area to automatic working in the following years:

  • Christchurch.
  • Weymouth.
  • 1968
  • Dorchester.
    • 58
  • 1969
  • Westbourne.
  • Parkstone.
  • New Milton.

At Bournemouth 2,285 and at Christchurch 1,090 subscribers have shared lines.
