§ 90. Mr. Fisherasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many West Indians, Pakistanis and Indians have applied for recruitment in the Metropolitan Police force since the passing of the Commonwealth Immigrants Act.

§ 91. Mr. Freesonasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will take steps to ensure that no discrimination on grounds of race, creed or colour is practised in recruitment to the police and fire services.
§ Mr. George ThomasThe Police Regulations and the Fire Services (Appointment and Promotion) Regulations, which prescribe the basic qualifications for appointment to the police and fire services, respectively, do not discriminate in any way between British subjects of differing race, colour or creed. My right hon. Friend has no reason to think that appointing authorities, who are responsible for making individual appointments, consider applicants otherwise than on their merits.
