HC Deb 04 March 1965 vol 707 cc307-8W
Q11. Mr. Palmer

asked the Prime Minister what instructions are given to the chairmen and members of nationalised boards and institutions on their abstention from matters of political controversy, including the making of public statements.

The Prime Minister

Ministers responsible for making appointments to public boards send copies of the rules for their guidance to new members with the letter of appointment. The rules are that members of these boards should not carry out executive duties in any political party. Whilst whole time members are asked to abstain from controversial political activity, part-time members are free to engage in such activity, provided they exercise a proper discretion.
