HC Deb 04 March 1965 vol 707 c299W
Mr. Horner

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many local authorities have taken advantage of the facilities provided by the British Standards Institute to submit for testing goods purchased under the provisions of the Consumers' Protection Act, 1961.

Mr. George Thomas

Under the provisions of the Oil Heaters Regulations, 1962, and the Children's Nightdresses Regulations, 1964, six articles have so far been submitted, by two local authorities, to the British Standards Institution laboratory, which is not however the only authorised testing establishment. The enforcement by local authorities of regulations under the Act does not necessarily involve the submission of goods for testing.
