HC Deb 04 March 1965 vol 707 cc308-9W
Mr. Stratton Mills

asked the Minister of Aviation if he will give a general direction to the British Overseas Airways Corporation to accept sterling travellers' cheques in the United States of America instead of only dollar travellers' cheques.

Mr. Roy Jenkins

A general direction would not be appropriate. I understand, however, that the Corporation accepts sterling travellers' cheques in the United States of America and Canada provided the cheques are endorsed for world wide encashment.

Mr. Stratton Mills

asked the Minister of Aviation if he will give a general direction to the British Overseas Airways Corporation to accept credit cards in the United States of America, in order to bring them into line with the practice of most other airlines in that country.

Mr. Roy Jenkins

No. This is entirely a matter of commercial management. But I am informed that negotiations on this subject between the Corporation and various companies are in progress and B.O.A.C. are hopeful of a satisfactory outcome.
