HC Deb 04 March 1965 vol 707 cc280-1W
50. Mr. Urwin

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will now give a starting date for the erection of the proposed advance factory at Houghton-le-Spring; and, in view of the high unemployment rate in the area, if he will investigate the need to provide more factory space in this locality.

Mr. Jay

I hope that construction of the advance factory on the Board of Trade industrial estate at Houghton-le-Spring will start before the end of April. It is too soon to add to the advance factory programme announced last November, but Board of Trade assistance under the Local Employment Acts would be available for any suitable project for the area.

54. Mr. Stones

asked the President of the Board of Trade when the proposed advance factory building in the Consett parliamentary division is to be erected.

Mr. Jay

Negotiations have started for the purchase of a site for the 25,000 square feet advance factory announced last November for the Consett/Stanley area. Building will commence as soon as possible after purchase of the land.
