Dr. Bennettasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he will refer to his new Scientific Advisory Committee the scientific issues which will be involved in an amendment of the Artificial Sweeteners in Food Order 1953 in such a way as to permit any widespread consumption by the public of artificial sweeteners such as cyclamates.
§ Mr. HoyNo. As I explained in my reply to the hon. Member for Cheltenham (Mr. Dodds-Parker) on 24th February, the Food Standards Committee and the Committee on the Medical and Nutritional Aspects of Food Policy have advised me on these issues after thorough consideration of the possibilities of hazard to health.
