77. Mr. Ioan L. Evans

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government whether he will take steps to require building societies not to grant mortgages on new housing unless the building complies with a new fixed standard.

I shall keep in touch with the consideration which the Building Societies Association is giving to the possibility of introducing a form of warranty as a condition of making loans on new houses, but I have no present intention of introducing legislation to make this a requirement.
