§ 38. Sir J. Langford-Holtasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether Her Majesty's Government accepts the claim of the Government of the United Arab Republic to exercise belligerent rights affecting British 169W nationals, in the course of its dispute with Israel.
§ Mr. George ThomsonSo far as I am aware, the United Arab Republic has claimed to exercise belligerent rights principally in connection with passage through the Suez Canal. Her Majesty's Government consider that there are no good grounds on which the Government of the United Arab Republic can claim to be entitled to exercise belligerent rights against British shipping at the present time.
