Mr. Carmichaelasked the Minister of Public Building and Works if he will state the cost of labour, materials and hire charges, respectively, in the preparations for the ceremony which took place in Westminster Hall on 22nd June; how much material will be re-usable; and what estimated costs will be recoverable by resale of surplus material.
§ Mr. C. PannellThe total cost was about £9,500, of which £1,130 was for hire charges. Where the work was let 5W to contractors, I cannot break the cost down between labour and material charges. Some of the floor covering and other material will, where possible, be taken into store for re-use. The remainder will be sold by auction but, for obvious reasons, I would prefer not to say how much we expect it to realise.
