HC Deb 28 June 1965 vol 715 cc2-3W
Mr. Symonds

asked the Minister of Land and Natural Resources what progress has been made in the examination of projects for barrages across the Solway Firth and Morecambe Bay.

Mr. Willey

I recently visited both areas in the company of the Director of the Water Resources Board. After inspecting the sites we had an informal preliminary discussion about the proposals with the local and river authorities concerned.

At my request the Board have asked Sir Alexander Gibb & Partners to prepare a detailed programme and estimates of cost for the Morecambe Bay study. Jointly with the Scottish Office, the Board have invited Messrs. Babtie, Shaw & Morton to carry out a parallel investigation for the Solway scheme.
