§ Mr. MellishStrict comparison over the last 15 years is not possible, since the basis of compensation for land purchased by local authorities was changed by the Town and Country Planning Act, 1959; and information is available only about land purchased by housing authorities. The available records, which cover an area which is not quite identical with Greater London, show that since 1959 the cost of housing land inside the former L.C.C. area has increased by 275 per cent. and in the rest of the area by 330 per cent.
