Evansasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government if he has considered the representations from the Birmingham City Council that he should take action to ensure that people suffering hardship, particularly the elderly, were given some relief from paying the full local authority rate; and what reply he has sent.
§ Mr. CrossmanThe council has been informed that its representations are being taken into account in the Government's examination of local government finance, which includes consideration of rate relief for people with low incomes.
§ Mr. Dudley Smithasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government if he 54W will now announce his proposals for relieving the disproportionate rate burden placed on owner-occupiers.
§ Mr. CrossmanAs I informed the hon. Member on 11th May, the Government will announce their proposals after completing their examination of local government finance.
