asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government when the last survey of itinerant caravan-dwellers, or didicois, was made in the County of Hertford in accordance with Circular 6/62; what it disclosed; and how this compares with the previous survey of this problem.

Mr. Crossman

Hertfordshire County Council carried out a survey in accordance with Circular 6/62 in April, 1962. This disclosed that there were then about 100 itinerant families in the county. I know of no previous survey.

The national survey carried out in March of this year produced a very similar result: 98 families.
