HC Deb 04 June 1965 vol 713 c279W
Mr. Rose

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many schools in Manchester do not have an inside toilet, gymnasium and assembly hall; and how many were built before1914.

Mr. Crosland

It would involve a disproportionate expenditure of time and labour to collect the information asked for.

The following information about Manchester schools was obtained from the survey of school buildings carried out in 1962:

Number of schools:
with sanitation mainly out of doors 151
with no hall* 40
built before 1918 205
* Primary schools with less than 100 pupils are not required by the Department's Regulations to have a hall.
No information was obtained about gymnasia.
