HC Deb 04 June 1965 vol 713 c293W
Sir C. Taylor

asked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance if she will publish in the OFFICIAL REPORT the representations she received in the case of the Liverpool alderman, details of which were sent to her by the hon. Member for Liverpool, Walton, without disclosing the name of the individual concerned.

Miss Herbison

No. Even without mentioning the name of the individual concerned sufficient detail would remain to enable him to be identified and it would not be right for me to publish personal information about claimants in this way.

The general point at issue was whether a member of a local authority could receive unemployment benefit for days when he attended council meetings. The original decision was that the claimant was not entitled to benefit for those days, but in the light of further evidence about the claimant's availability for work the insurance officer reviewed his decision and the claim was allowed.
