Thomasasked the First Secretary of State and Secretary of State for Economic Affairs if he will refer to the National Board for Prices and Incomes the growing practice, amongst landlords of commercial properties, of charging rentals which are based on the turnover of the tenant's business, in view of the inflationary effects of such a practice.
§ Mr. George BrownNo. I am advised that under Part II of the Landlord and Tenant Act, 1954, a tenant in such circumstances may seek determination of the rent by the court. In doing this, the court is required to have regard to the open market value of the premises and to disregard factors concerning the business carried on by a tenant on the premises.
