Mr. Gresham Cookeasked the Minister of Transport why the estimated completion date of the motorway between Quinton and Great Barr has been put back from June 1968 to the autumn of 1968; and what steps are to be taken to ensure that the actual completion of this section of motorway will not be further postponed.
§ Mr. Tom FraserAs I told the hon. Member in January, I hope to arrange for construction of this length of motorway to begin during the latter half of 1966. The works, which are partly on viaduct, are expected to take between 2 and 2½ years. Every effort is being made to get this length completed as soon as possible but there are many difficulties in this heavily-developed urban area.
