HC Deb 01 June 1965 vol 713 c205W
Mr. Newens

asked the Minister of Transport how many road accidents have occurred on the A.11 road between Epping and the Bull and Horseshoes public house, Hastingwood in the last five years; how many fatalities and other casualties have been recorded; and what steps are to be taken to improve this road for the heavy volume of traffic which it now carries.

Mr. Tom Faser

The accident record is as follows:

ACCIDENTS REPORTED ON A.11 TRUNK ROAD BETWEEN JUNCTION WITH A.122 (EPPING) AND THE BULL AND HORSESHOES PUBLIC HOUSE, HASTINGWOOD
Total number of accidents Fatal accidents Accidents resulting in personal injury
1960 71 2 28
1961 56 1 21
1962 66 1 26
1963 56 1 31
1964 75 32

Work on the widening of about a mile of the A.11 south of the Bull and Horseshoes public house is due to begin this month. A programme of progressive improvement by further widening and providing better visibility has been planned. In the longer term, the Bishops Stortford motorway will attract much of the present through-traffic from the A.11.
