Friend set up the Shipbuilding Inquiry Committee last February to make recommendations about these and other factors affecting the future competitiveness of the industry and he hopes to receive the Committee's re-160W port early next year. In the shorter term there are signs that the industry is making progress on these matters which he will continue to encourage.
