§ Mr. C. PannellI have made a Preservation Order under Section 11 of the Historic Buildings and Ancient Monuments Act, 1953, placing Maryport Roman Fort and its extra-mural settlement under my continuing protection. The Order came into operation on 16th July, 1965, and ensures that no works can be carried out without my consent. It supersedes an Interim Preservation Notice which was issued on 16th December, 1963, when this important monument was threatened with destruction.
