HC Deb 27 July 1965 vol 717 c83W
Mr. Heffer

asked the Minister of Transport what are the causes for the long delay of motor vehicles getting into Liverpool docks, sometimes taking up to three days; and what steps are being taken to remedy the situation.

Mr. Tom Fraser

Delays are not general throughout the port, but may occur in particular cases as a result of a shortage of labour, cargoes arriving without having been booked or berths being out of commission whilst reconstruction takes place.

Among the measures in hand or planned are expansion and improvement of the port's accommodation and facilities, provision of information services to road hauliers to assist with the reception and clearance of cargoes, and improvement and rationalisation of cargo handling.
