§ Mr. Malcolm MacMillanasked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he is aware that young children at Hacklet, in Benbecula, have to cross wet bogland, a dangerous open drain and rough ground on their way to and from school and whether he will invite and assist Inverness County Council to provide an access road to the main island road, in view of the hardship suffered by the children and other residents in the township.
§ Mr. RossThe education authority has recently altered its transport arrangements so that the children's walk to the main road is reduced to about three-quarters of a mile. I understand that a proposal for an access road to Hacklet is on the county council's list of possible future township road schemes, but it is for the council to decide its priority on that list. In so doing it will no doubt take account of the nature of the walk the children still have to make.
