HL Deb 22 July 1965 vol 268 c990WA
THE MARQUESS OF A1LESBURY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will give consideration to the status of surviving holders of the Albert Medal for Gallantry, and specifically whether the said survivors could be re-invested (as were holders of the Empire Gallantry Medal in 1940) with the George Cross—thus, as seems right in view of their equal gallantry, enjoying the Annuity recently awarded to holders of the George Cross.

THE EARL OF LONGFORD

The conversion of the Empire Gallantry Medal into the George Cross was an altogether exceptional measure introduced on the institution of the latter award in 1940 and it is not proposed to extend the arrangement to any other awards.

House adjourned at eighteen minutes past eight o'clock.
