§ Mr. Hector Hughesasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he is aware of the continuing drift south from Scotland of population and particularly technicians and other industrial workers; and what are his present plans to stop this drift and to increase the number and nature of industries in Scotland with particular reference to North-East Scotland.
§ Mr. RossI regard Scotland's net loss of population through migration, which bears heavily on the North East, as one of the basic problems of the Scottish economy; the Scottish Economic Planning Council believes that its reduction must be a principal aim of the plans currently being prepared for the economic development of Scotland, including the North East.
